Manampalli Forest
This is a forest area which is approximately 80 kms from Pollachi town near Coimbatore and 20 kms from Valparai..
For those who would like to spend some time inside a forest area with just the basic amenities it will be a good experience to stay at the Manampalli Forest Rest House, which is less than 10 kms off the Pollachi-Valparai Main Road.
It takes more than half an hour to drive this 10 kms distance to reach the rest house. Advance reservation is required for the accommodation there and it can be done only through the Forest Ranger of the area. They charge roughly Rs.1000 per day per person. The place can accommodate around 6 to 8 people. A cook is made available for your food needs but you need to go with your stock of grocery and vegetables for the purpose. The place is a Solar energy back up for your basic lighting. A solar heater is available for a hot water bath. There is river running alongside the Rest house and you can see a warning board that banning bath as Crocodiles have been sighted there. We didn't see any.
Travel by two wheelers or walk is not allowed at any point in time inside the forest as chances of animal attack are there. It is a great place to enjoy the silence with no access to the outside world. However, at some limited locations inside the jungle you may get to connect with your BSNL Network. No other network works.
Beware of the numerous monkeys that may surround you as you check in. We stayed there for a couple of days and had a great time. You will not get anything to buy there and you have to come out of the jungle a good 10 kms before you find a shop.
